As of 19th April BDZ EAD and Greek railways (OSE) put in operation a direct sleeping-car along the route Sofia – Athens – Sofia. The new services comes in result of agreements between the Bulgarian transport minister, Petar Mutafchiev, and his Greek counterpart, Mihalis Liapis. The sleeping-car complies with all European standards for international passenger services. It is air-conditioned and ensures a comfortable journey. The rolling stock is provided by OSE. The one-way ticket costs EUR 47 and customers, who buy return tickets will benefit form a 20% discount. The new sleeping-car will depart from Sofia at 17:30, then stop in Thessaloniki (arrives at 23:16 hrs and departs at 23:44 hrs) and will arrive in Athens at 06:14 hrs. From the Greek capital the sleeping-car will depart at 22:57 hrs and arrive in Sofia at 12:20 hrs (the stop in Thessaloniki will be between 05:35 hrs and 06:15 hrs).
The new high-quality service is in implementation of agreements between the Minister of transport of the Republic of Bulgaria, Petar Mutafchiev, and his Greek counterpart, Mihalis Liapis.
