The three carriage-salons from the train set, numbered 050, 051, and 052, were intended for King Boris III, Queen Joanna, and Prince Kiril, respectively. They were manufactured in Germany in 1938–1939. Each carriage features a suite, sleeping compartments, and a bathroom. With their luxurious furnishings and dynamic ride quality—which was state-of-the-art for its time—they ensure a high level of comfort during travel.
No. 050-1 A
The first production model, No. 050-1 A, was built for Tsar Boris III—it features 1 crew cabin with 1 bed, 4 cabins with 2 beds each, 2 two-bedroom compartments, each with one bed and a shared bathroom, a lounge with 11 seats for meetings, conferences, and dining, and a storage room.
No. 051-9 A
Following this, carriage No. 051-9 A was built; it served Queen Joanna from 1938 to 1946—it has one staff compartment with one bed, four compartments with two beds each, 2 cabins with two sleeping areas, each with one bed, and a shared bathroom, a lounge with 11 seats for meetings, conferences, and dining, and a storage room.
No. 052-7
The third was built in Kassel, Germany, with serial number 052-7, and was intended for Prince Kiril—it has 3 cabins, each with 2 beds; a bedroom with one bed, a toilet, and a bathroom; 1 lounge with 11 seats; 1 crew cabin; and a kitchen.
No. 055-0
Carriage 055-0 – manufactured in 1940 by “Linke-Hofmann Werke” in Breslau, Germany, for the Iranian Shah. According to long-time employees, it remained in Bulgaria during World War II, after which the cost of transporting it to Iran exceeded its value at the time. This is why the carriage is known today as the “Iranian” and was later incorporated into the “Korona Express” train set. It is equipped with a “Görlitz” bogie and features a design typical of its era. It has 7 compartments, each with 6 seats, upholstered in dove-blue plush.
No. 056-8
Security carriage 056-8 DK manufactured in Kassel, Germany; it contains 1 cabin with 6 beds, 2 cabins with 2 beds each, 1 crew compartment with 1 bed, a kitchen, and a separate compartment for 9 motorcycles used to escort the train.
Two carriages from this set were built in Dryanovo, Bulgaria, in 1957 and 1967.
No. 057-8
Passenger carriage 057-8 (the largest of our “Korona” passenger carriages) was built in Dryanovo, Bulgaria, in 1957 based on the drawings and design specifications of the company “Linke-Hofmann-Werke” of Germany. It features an office, a 24-seat passenger compartment, and a 16-seat passenger compartment
No. 058-4 A
Passenger carriage 058-4 A was built in Dryanovo, Bulgaria, in 1967. It has 4 compartments, each with 2 bunk beds, 1 compartment with 1 bed, a lounge with 18 seats, a crew compartment with 2 bunk beds, and a kitchen.
In the 1970s, a 022-0 freight carriage was also manufactured in Dryanovo, Bulgaria; it features a compartment for the train conductor, a luggage compartment capable of holding 11 motorcycles, one compartment with six beds, and one compartment with four beds.
The preserved original interior of the passenger carriages from the "Corona Express", as well as the professional service, make them ideal for business, anniversary, holiday, and tourist trips throughout the national standard-gauge railway network. The train can be configured with a steam or conventional locomotive and carriages, the number, type, and arrangement of which are determined according to our customers’ preferences.
