Narrow-gauge retro rolling stock
Retro carriages are an integral part of the retro train set. Ideally, they should correspond to the era in which the locomotive was built.
To date, two narrow-gauge retro carriages—restored in 2004 by Plovdiv Railway Transport Company and located at the Septemvri depot—have been restored:
С764 с №502 is the only surviving passenger carriage out of the four delivered in 1926 for the 760 mm gauge. All four were built at the KOPRIVNICKA VOZOVKA AKC. SPOL. factory (Factory No. 49328 / 1926). Following its restoration, the original interior layout of the carriage has been preserved—a total of 27 third-class seats arranged in a 2+1 configuration; all seats are wooden, and all luggage racks are wicker, just like the originals. The windows, which open and close with a latch, the steam heating system, and the restroom have also been preserved;
ВС764 с №558 is the only surviving example of the eight passenger carriages built by WAGGON – UND MASCHINENFABRIK A. G. BAUTZEN in Germany and delivered in 1941 for the 760-mm gauge. Following restoration, the original windows with their mechanisms, the steam heating system, and the restroom have been preserved. Following the restoration, the carriage retained its original capacity—a total of 38 seats, including 6 second-class seats and 32 third-class seats; all seats in the carriage are arranged in a 2+1 configuration;
and a freight carriage restored in 2005 by VRU - Septemvri:
W764 с №901, a freight carriage, has been specially modified to include a compartment for the train conductor with side observation windows, a baggage compartment—part of which houses a radio booth and a room for the electric generator that powers the heritage train.
The narrow-gauge train is based at the Septemvri depot. It runs on Bulgaria’s only operating narrow-gauge railway line, with a track gauge of 760 mm, from Septemvri to Dobrinishte. The journey from Septemvri to Velingrad on the narrow-gauge retro train takes two and a half hours, and the memories of this trip will last a lifetime.
